Gena is a someone I went to school with before i left Ringling. We never talked much, but she was always someone I admired from a distance. She always had an eccentric demeanor. I enjoy her Work.

HERE is some >o

Waltons work explores many things simultaneously. With different colors and markings to give way to many different relationships its easy to take the image in at first glance. But, when you allow the subtleties to appear you start sensing what her work really generates. What could feel like randomness is also the pure conviction in which Walton works. By allowing randomness to appear and to be able to work with elements in the paintings that are not necessarily thought out, she is able to discover so many more possibilities than one who is always pre-meditating what they do. Some of the best paintings i have seen have come from a hand that acknowledges both spontaneity and direction. This is balanced by what seems to be a corky narrative in the paintings. Even the most vague of which still produce a tale which you cant quite figure out.

Her design sense is one that is unconventional to the main stream, but here in lies the beauty of it. She is not to always looking for the one sided view of everything. Instead, she allows both sides of the aesthetic to come into play, the pretty and the ugly. As this happens, beauty and ugly cease to exists. The experience of how the colors and marks come together create the definition which often times is normally hard to define. She is of course, borrowing from friends and contemporaries who she is inspired by but when you give the time to really investigate the different color and mark combinations you can see a little blip of Betsys world.

Design is here, and design is there, but, with the growth in technology and the shrinking of the world, design seems to hold a new profound importance in every day life. Everyone, whether you are a person who is subscribed to a certain nostalgic culture  or a person who is embracing the ever-changing days of the future as it happens now must acknowledge the implications of good design. Like everything else in our world, and even more so now,  there is an extensive amount of garbage that people indulge in via the internet. On one hand sure, i can see the argument that most of it is just fun little things, “doo-daads” of the sort, little bits of happiness to brighten a boring day. But, with so much garbage being guzzled down, i think it is safe to say that there could be some interesting if not horrible repercussions from all this. If you think i’m a little off, just look at the generations that were plopped in front of the T.V. for hours on end. It has its consequences. With that being said there is the other side of the ball. The side that is starting to take responsibility for all the information that is being taken in, and, with the information on the net becoming better organized, it is opening fantastic windows to view the world through, which just a few years ago could have only been thought about as one was laying in bed thinking of the future and what dreams may come. An advocate of this organized information awakening is TED.com .  Although Design in the, ‘visual’ sense is not their primary focus, what they have been doing is designing information, and doing so in a beautiful way. I can not find the one i was originally going to use, it has vanished somewhere, but i think this one gets the point across. ^*^ And if you visit the Website your journey will continue.  <^>

If we can make the universe around us accessible to anyone with a computer, then imagine what we can do with the simple things right in front of us. There are not to many things i subscribe to fully, but good design and what it can do for communication and the imagination is something for the time being, i will. We have so many great tools at our finger tips, like no period ever before us that we know about. All we have to do is take the time and energy to make all the things we want out of them, any way we wish. Your thoughts?Picture+3
